About 3 months ago he heard that if he does not get a 3-phase operation, costing R64, 000.00, his sight would deteriorate to a stage where he would become blind with irreversible repercussions. He, as any member of a medical aid would, approached Discovery only to hear that they as not possible to cover his operations in that it was a cosmetic operation. He then sought advice from specialists and medical practitioners that went as far as to issue letters of motivation for the importance of these operations. To no avail... It was then, that decided that he needs to meet before a Discovery panel of practitioners in order for them to access the degree of emphasis to be placed on his disposition. Again to no avail.... Discovery was not willing to cover the bill. As a last resort, he approached the eye specialist and professor at Tygerberg Hospital to assist him with the matter, a glimmer of hope appeared that he has to have 2 transplants costing R 12,000.00 each excluding medical costs. This is the current position and dilemma he finds himself in.

I spoke to his wife during the past week and she has informed me that his eyesight has deteriorated with 2 % during the past month.  A healthy person's eyes will take 1 year to deteriorated with 1 %.  His vision, without correction, equates to 6/60 visual acuity on the Snellen's chart, which is, technically, blindness.

Currently Mogammat’s is unfit for work and I really have no idea when and if he will be able to return.

The medical aid stated that they would pay by doubling the funds he has available in his MSA. Just one problem they need between R60 000-00 and R150 000-00 for the operation since it all depends on the success of the first operation. The implant he needs it calls Phakic refractive intra ocular lenses.  The lenses have to be custom manufactured for each patient.

We asked for funds so we can assist our team member.  What ever you can afford.  You can just email me and I will come collect.  Please just let me know when I can come and collect. OR You can even deposit the money into a bank account they opened for this purpose.
